Choose the path that fits

Your creative life is not over. It’s ready to thrive with support.

Each cohort follows its own book, schedule, host, and conversation. Both offer a supportive 12-week structure for reconnecting with creativity.

What both experiences include

A thoughtful structure for staying in motion.

You do not have to complete every task perfectly. The goal is to keep showing up, noticing what shifts, and listening to your creative life.

01

Weekly Gatherings

Live online meetings with guided reflection, meaningful conversation, and real connnection.

02

Creative Practice Support Kit

Encouragement to use the book’s tools and tasks consistently, imperfectly, and honestly.

03

Inclusive Community

A respectful space to share experiences, insights, synchronicities, challenges, and wins along the way.

04

Weekly Inspiration

Reminders, reflections, resources, and access to a private members area.

Why join a guided cohort?

Because buying the book and finishing the journey are not always the same thing.

A weekly rhythm makes it easier to continue when resistance, uncertainty, or the demands of daily life begin to pull your attention elsewhere.

Structure

A clear 12-week path helps you keep moving without rushing the process.

Reflection

Conversation helps you notice patterns and subtle shifts you might miss alone.

Encouragement

You will be reminded that consistency matters more than perfect participation.

Connection

You will travel alongside people who are also beginning, returning, and trying again.

Meet your hosts

Two guides. Two perspectives. A shared belief in creative possibility.

Sam Hopwood

Host of The Artist’s Way

Sam is a writer, painter, and photographer working on their memoir, Field Notes From a Saturn Return, publishing The Quiet Part on Substack as well as nearing completion of Colors As Companions, a 12-part large abstract painting series. Their work explores creativity, grief, love, identity, and art as a form of resistance. As the host, Sam brings warmth, curiosity, and a deep respect for the creative process.

Whit Whitley

Host of The Artist’s Way: 50 & Beyond

Whit is the founder of East Broad Records, a songwriter, creative entrepreneur, and former K-12 teacher. As someone 50 and beyond, Whit understands how easily creativity can be set aside while building a career, caring for others, and moving through adult life. As the host, Whit brings a rare balance of gentleness and strength to create a nurturing space where participants are guided with grace wherever they are in the process.

Frequently asked questions

What you may want to know before choosing.

Do I need to be an artist?
No. These workshops are for anyone who wants to reconnect with creativity, curiosity, self-expression, or a postponed dream.
Do I need to purchase the book?
Yes. Participants should purchase the book used by their cohort prior to the first day of class.
Can someone over 50 join the original cohort?
Yes. The original cohort is open to adults of all ages. Adults over 50 are welcome to choose whichever book and group feel most meaningful. If you'll be turning 50 in the next year, please feel free to join the 50 & Beyond cohort if that feels right to you.
Are the two groups combined?
No. The cohorts are offered as separately, and each has its own host, book, meetings, and discussions. The cohorts run on the same schedule to make it easier to invite a friend or family member to join the journey even if you're participating in different cohorts.
What happens if I miss a meeting?
Life happens. You don’t need to be “caught up” to continue—each session stands on its own. The greatest value, however, comes from attending regularly and staying connected throughout the journey. If you miss a class, please don’t let one absence become several. Simply return the following week wherever you are in the process. Sessions aren’t recorded, but you’ll receive a weekly reflection email to help you reconnect and continue.
How much time should I expect each week?
This is a transformative 12-week journey that asks for a meaningful daily commitment in addition to the 90-minute weekly gathering. Plan to set aside about 60–90 minutes each day for Morning Pages, reading, selected tasks, walks, and your weekly Artist Date. Some days will require less time than others, and you do not need to complete everything perfectly. What matters most is staying engaged with the process.
Is this a therapy group?
No. These are guided educational and reflective workshops based on Julia Cameron’s books. They are not therapy, counseling, or a substitute for mental health care.
Is this program accreditated by Julia Cameron?
There is no official accreditation required to lead an Artist’s Way group. Julia Cameron has said that anyone who feels called to teach it may do so. This workshop is a structured course based on a guided book study: participants read the book, practice the tools, and reflect on the material together with the support of an experienced facilitator. Whit is a certified K-12 English and music teacher with 20 years of experience, and Sam has been teaching creativity-based courses for 5 years. The workshop is independently offered by East Broad Records.
Where do the proceeds from the workshop go?

Proceeds support East Broad Records and its mission to help people reignite their creative spark and reclaim creativity as a vital part of being human.

We believe too many people are taught to set aside their inner artist in favor of productivity, practicality, and responsibility. East Broad Records exists to create spaces where people can return to self-expression, connection, and the work that feels most alive to them.

At the heart of it all is a simple belief: creativity is a form of love—for ourselves, for one another, and for the life we are here to live.

A welcoming community

Creativity flourishes where people are treated with dignity and respect.

East Broad Records welcomes participants of all backgrounds, nationalities, races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, religions, and creative experience levels.

Participants are expected to respect the identities, experiences, boundaries, and perspectives of others. We ask everyone to share from their own experience rather than offering unsolicited advice.

This workshop may not be the right fit for anyone who feels uncomfortable participating in a diverse and inclusive community.

Your creativity is still here

You may have postponed it. You may have doubted it. But it has not disappeared.

Choose the journey that speaks to you—and begin.
