In collaboration with Compound, a cultural hub in Long Beach where art, wellness, and community come together, Whit Whitley and Sam Hopwood are hosting a free 2-hour creative workshop on Sunday, August 9, 2025, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Art For All is a monthly series at Compound that features local, national, and international artists who guide participants through a themed hands-on art making experience.

This Art for All focuses on creating by tapping into the deepest parts of ourselves through writing, discussion, and hands-on art-making. We’ll explore how creative expression can be an act of resistance, a practice of survival, and a vision for the world to come.

You don’t have to be an “artist.” You just have to show up. You'll trace your artistic lineage and call on your creative ancestors. You'll explore how art reclaims agency in the face of chaos. You'll make something small—but true—that points to the future we long for. Most importantly, you'll leave this workshop with a piece of your power to remind you: I will make art anyway!

Join us in the beautiful space!

Compound is a cultural complex in the heart of the Zaferia district of Long Beach, California – dedicated to individual transformation and social impact, providing a communal context to reexamine and transform ourselves, our purpose, and our communities through a rich variety of contemporary art, wellness programming, live performances, and culinary experiences.
